3D Rhinoplasty Simulation with Crisalix

One of the most common anxieties before rhinoplasty is uncertainty, not about the surgery itself, but about what your nose might look like afterwards. At Adnova Clinic in Fareham, I now offers Crisalix 3D imaging as part of the rhinoplasty consultation process, giving you the ability to visualise potential changes to your nose in three dimensions before any decision is made.

I am the only surgeon on the south coast offering simulation technology for rhinoplasty assessment and planning.

What Is 3D Rhinoplasty Simulation?

3D rhinoplasty simulation is the process of generating a three-dimensional digital model of your nose from standard photographs, then using specialist software to simulate the effect of surgical changes. The result is a rotatable 3D image that can be viewed from multiple angles, offering a spatial understanding of proportion and profile that flat photographs alone cannot convey.
This is not image editing or filtering. The simulation is built from your actual facial anatomy, and modifications are made by your surgeon in the context of your specific nasal structure, skin type, facial proportions, and surgical goals.

What Crisalix Does
•    Generates a 3D facial model from three standard photographs
•    Allows the surgeon to simulate changes to the nasal tip, bridge, projection, width, and symmetry
•    Produces a rotatable before-and-after that can be viewed from any angle
•    Provides secure patient access to view and share the simulation from home
•    Supports collaborative discussion between surgeon and patient before committing to surgery

What 3D Simulation Cannot Do

It is important to be clear about the limitations of any simulation tool. The images produced by Crisalix represent one possible direction of change, not a guaranteed surgical outcome.

Important: A 3D simulation is a consultation aid, not a contractual promise. Human tissue does not behave with the precision of software. Skin thickness, cartilage memory, healing, and tissue response all influence the final result in ways that cannot be fully predicted or digitally replicated. Mr Biggs will use the simulation to discuss what is realistically achievable for your anatomy, not to produce an image you are asked to sign off on.

•    Simulation reflects surgical intent and direction, not an exact outcome
•    Skin type and thickness significantly affect how the underlying structural changes present externally
•    The final result continues to evolve for up to 12 months as swelling resolves and tissues settle
•    Complex or revision cases involve greater surgical uncertainty than primary procedures
•    The simulation does not account for intraoperative findings that may require modification of the plan

The Two Consultation Pathways

Pathway 1: Pre-Consultation Upload via Crisalix

Best for: patients who want maximum preparation time and wish to arrive at their first consultation with a simulation already prepared.
1.    Register via the Crisalix portal linked from Mr Biggs's profile at crisalix.com/tim-biggs.
2.    Upload three standard photographs following Crisalix guidelines: full face front, 45-degree angle, and full profile.
3.    Mr Biggs reviews your photographs and prepares a simulation in advance of your consultation appointment.
4.    The simulation is presented and discussed at your first consultation at Adnova Clinic.
5.    Following the consultation, you receive access to your simulation via your personal Crisalix account to review and share privately.
This pathway is well suited to patients who have a clear idea of their goals, those who are well-informed about rhinoplasty, and those travelling from a distance who wish to make the most of a single appointment.

Pathway 2: Photographs at First Consultation, Simulation at Second

Best for: patients who prefer to discuss goals and gather information first, with the simulation forming part of a structured second appointment.

1.    Attend your initial consultation at Adnova Clinic in the normal way.
2.    Standardised clinical photographs are taken at the clinic.
3.    I prepare a Crisalix 3D simulation based on the clinical photographs and the goals discussed at the first appointment.
4.    A second consultation is arranged at which the simulation is presented. This allows time for detailed discussion, refinement of goals, and any outstanding questions to be addressed before a decision is made.
5.    You receive access to your simulation via your personal Crisalix account to take away and review.
This pathway is often preferred by patients who are earlier in their decision-making process, those considering complex or revision rhinoplasty, and those for whom a measured, two-stage consultation provides greater confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does 3D simulation guarantee my result?
No. The simulation illustrates one possible direction of change and is used to guide the surgical plan and align expectations. It is not a guarantee of outcome. Final results are influenced by your individual anatomy, tissue behaviour, healing, and intraoperative findings. Mr Biggs will discuss what is and is not achievable for your nose specifically.

Do I need to manipulate the photos myself?

No. Mr Biggs manipulates the photos to aline with what is surgically achievable and what your wishes for your ideal expected outcome are.

What photographs do I need to upload?
Crisalix requires 3-6 photographs: a straight-on frontal view, a 45-degree three-quarter view, and a full lateral profile. Detailed guidance is provided when you register via the Crisalix portal. Good lighting, a neutral background, and a relaxed facial expression produce the most accurate model. Altermatively, I can take high quality photographs at the first consultation.

Is my data secure?
Yes. Crisalix operates on fully encrypted servers and your photographs and simulation data are private to you and your surgeon. You control access to your simulation via your personal account.

Can the simulation be adjusted during my consultation?
Yes. Mr Biggs can modify the simulation in real time during your appointment in response to the discussion. This is one of the key clinical benefits of the Crisalix platform.

Is 3D simulation available for functional surgery or sinus procedures?
The Crisalix platform is used specifically for cosmetic rhinoplasty planning at Adnova Clinic.

What if I want to go ahead with surgery after seeing the simulation?
If you wish to proceed following your consultation, the next steps, including consent, pre-operative assessments, and scheduling, will be discussed with you by Mr Biggs's clinical team. There is no pressure to commit at the consultation appointment.

Do I have to pay for morphing/simulation

No. This is included in the consultation fee of £200.
